The Book Bench: Wiki Books : The New Yorker

So when I heard that users can now create books from their favorite Wikipedia articles, my initial response was: why on earth would I want that? Who would part with their hard-earned money for a book written by anonymous Internet trolls? But watching the following video, I became convinced that the service, “PediaPress,” might just be an inspired idea:

Perhaps I was lulled into submission by the narrator’s lovely, Isabella Rossellini-esque accent, but a customized Wikipedia book (not to be confused with a Wicca book) now strikes me as a wonderfully democratic thing.

Now here is one I will use again. As soon as people ask me what kind of accent I have in English, I'll just say "according to the New Yorker, an Isabella Rossellini-esque accent". How cool is that?

Allow listing of directories by htaccess

I am not sure what keywords I need to put here so that people find this faster than I did. Let's try. My hosting provider is 1&1 (1and1) and they disallow by default the listing of directories on your webspace. Which is probably good, but produces a 403 error as soon as you want to access a directory. If you want to give people access to the content of a directory, changing the permissions just isn't enough. The magic word is to put a htaccess at the root of the directory you wish to allow the listing of that says:

Options +Indexes

That's all :)
